steve2,
You are not ignorant. Great question! The GB often uses the annual meeting to introduce changes of doctrine. For instance, last annual meeting, changes to the identity of the Faithful and Discreet Slave were announced. In a nut shell, this meeting is most similar to a corporation's annual meeting with select sharholders.

The below is the title and theme scripture of the lead article in the latest Watchtower about Apostates. Notice that the Watchtower is unknowingly labeling themselves as “an apostate”, as “the man of lawlessness”, as we briefly review the context of its own theme scripture.
“
Avoid Being “Quickly Shaken From Your Reason”!
“Brothers, . . . we request of you not to be quickly shaken from your reason.”—2 THESS. 2:1, 2.
Full verse content 2 Thess 2:1-4:
“2 However, brothers, respecting the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him, we request of YOU 2 not to be quickly shaken from YOUR reason nor to be excited either through an inspired expression or through a verbal message or through a letter as though from us, to the effect that the day of Jehovah is here. 3 Let no one seduce YOU in any manner, because it will not come unless the apostasy comes first and the man of lawlessness gets revealed, the son of destruction. 4 He is set in opposition and lifts himself up over everyone who is called “god” or an object of reverence, so that he sits down in the temple of The God, publicly showing himself to be a god."
Interestingly, although in the latter part of chapter 2 verse 2, the NWT (New World Translation) expresses "the day of Jehovah is here", other translations translate it to be the day of the "Christ" or the day of "Lord" is here. In fact, the subject in this verse is actually Jesus according to the subject expressed in Ancient Greek: XPICTOC (pronounced "Christos").
Based on the fact that the Watchtower is provocatively declaring Christ's presence (and the time of the end) is here, it is essentially deeming that the "day of Christ is here." Therefore, as a result of the organization’s own actions, the language of these 4 verses appear to describe it as an "apostate," "a man of lawlessness," "publicly showing himself to be a god" as evidenced by not only its over-confidently announcing the presence and “day of the Christ,” but also its self-appointed position as God's sole representation and communication channel and judge of mankind.
Based on the above very brief contextual analysis, it looks like the Watchtower is the real “apostate,” “man of lawlessness!”

Wasn't supporting your Family in the Borg rather difficult?
by Poindexter Lionel Humperdique inis it just me, or is it hard enough to support your family without the restrictions of north of 10 hours a week of required meetings and field service exacerbated by the requirements of circuit and district assemblies and auxillary pioneering at least once a year?
especialy in a tough economy, how dare the borg demand so much of our brothers, and chastise those that work overtime just to pay rent and put food on the table.
furthermore, wouldn't it be loving to direct the flock to plan for the future and obtain secular education to decrease eventual work hours and increase the compensation level?

After all, much of the Borgs Econcomic Real Estate manuveurs in New York are 6-10 year multi-million dollar planned strategic projects. Why don't they Lovinglhy encourage the brothers to plan their econcomic futures accordingly?

What is the most out of line / disturbing experience you have seen from Circuit Overseers?
by Poindexter Lionel Humperdique ini once heard of a circuit overseer blaming a loyal ministerial servant, that served as the accounts servant, of steeling from the contribution boxes, simply because he deposited the congregation funds bi-weekly instead of twice a week.
due to the accusation, the ms was immediately removed without hearing his side of the story.
isn't this rather counter-intuitive and innefficient?

Why did you pick the name you have now
by label licker injust wondering if your name describes what you saw, how you were treated when you were "in" or now "out", maybe your personality, ect.... i'm label licker and the why i picked this name was because of all the licking up one side of elders and down the other to either be an elder or ministerial servant.
one time i was standing right in front of this brother who wasn't made an ms yet and he totally ignored me and talked right over my head speaking really loud trying to catch the co's attention.. got sick of watching the poor elderly sitting all alone or standing against the wall like a wall flower with noone to talk to and yet all these label lickers would take turns picking up the elders elderly parents and take them shopping and do their groceries at least four times a week while out in service, yet, there was noone there to take a meal to a sister who just got out of the hospital with a heart attack.
when i had shown up at her apartment with a meal she asked if i could wash her private and change her bandages.

My obviously rediculous name was chosen simply for my own humor and others to make light of this extreme transition we all share of learning the truth about the truth. If you cant laugh about about life what else can you do. at least that is my approach.

I once heard of a Circuit Overseer blaming a loyal Ministerial Servant, that served as the Accounts Servant, of steeling from the contribution boxes, simply because he deposited the congregation funds bi-weekly instead of twice a week. Due to the accusation, the Ms was immediately removed without hearing his side of the story. Isn't this rather counter-intuitive and innefficient? Does the organization really have such Cash Flow difficulties that they need checks deposited on a real time basis? Last time I checked, the Borg's Assets are probably valued at North of 500 Million Dollars Internationally.
I recall a CO that presented a rather Autocratic approach to his role, rather Rutherfordian in my opinion. Although he was aggressive and unforgiving to the publishers during most interactions with them, he spent almost an entire Saturday Meeting for service boasting how his favorite Basketball team was raising hell in the play-offs. This same CO has a conducting approach at meetings, in which he would ask a question, and immediately disagree with whoever answered and qualify their respone with a black-and-white Borg Approved Left Field Answer. The problem is, why does he get to pick and choose when he follows the rules of the Borg, but everyone else has to follow all of the rules inexpicably?
Another C.O, spent the first 30 minutes or so of the Semi-Annual Pioneer meeting visit with the Congregation ranting about so-called slang the brothers use in speaking to one another. The C.O. expressed that brothers should not use the terms Bro, or Pal, as these terms originate form Sexual and Gang type prison terms. It's too bad he overlooked the Spirit of our meeting together, typical of most Brothers with a Title. This same C.O. was notorious for submitting Congregation Expense reciepts that had most of the items blacked out with marker to ensure noone saw what he was spending the congregations hard earned moneys on.
I acknowedge we are all imperfect, and I love my fellow man. However, when arrogance posseses leadership, shouldn't we be concerned? Please share any experiences you have had with C.O.'s or anyone in leadership in the Borg that is off Par.

What's you BIGGEST pet peeve/disagreement with the WT or GB?!?
by TeenageInsider infor me its the district conventions.
not bragging in anyway, but i was born-into a family of 'higher ups' im talking co's and zo's..... and there is a room that they set up in the conventions/stadiums called the "chairmans office".
i always have access to these rooms, because im usually with one of my higher up family members who give talks and all that other crap.. anyways, while everyone in the convention is sitting in the sun, eating a slimy, soggy bolognia sandwich, the chairmans office is air conditioned, has a variety of chilled beverages, 'coke, pepsi, diet coke, gatorade, dasani water bottles,' not to mention the 'danishes, sandwich triangles, cookies, cakes, muffins, fresh coffee, and for lunch, pizza, salads, pastas, and lasagna'.

Public Talk today!
by MinisterAmos ini attended the meeting today, and i just wanted to share my observation of whaty i consider to be part of the hypocrisy inherant to all organized religion.
one of the things i hate most about the jws is the way they point fingers at others while calling them "worldly" or "not christians" while quietly doing the same thing that they accuse everyone else of.. one of the local elders gave the talk about forgiveness to relate with today's study topic.
one of the scriptures he quoted and emphasized was psalms 15:5 which, paraphrased, asks and answers the question: "o lord, who shall sojourn in your vtent?
